I Can’t Make You Love Me/Nick Of Time - Bon Iver

So it almost goes without saying that this cover is stunning, but I pose a question, no, a thought. Bon Iver is essentially covering one entire song by Bonnie Raitt, and this song happens to be one of the most heart breaking songs that I’ve ever heard. I Can’t Make You Love Me tears me up inside, but just when my heart begins to completely fall apart he comes in with a single line from Nick of Time (another Bonnie Raitt cover.) The lyric in question is “I found love in the nick of time.” This lyric, although seemingly going unnoticed in the utterly pain filled cover, gives the song a totally different meaning. In my opinion, the reason for this final line is to show that through the hardest and toughest times in life; whether it be heart break or the feeling of failure in any aspect of your life, you will always find love. And that love will be just in the nick of time to save you.
